Single-strand barbed wire uses one high-tensile core wire, whereas double-strand wire twists two milder steel wires together. Single-strand designs provide high tensile strength with lower weight per meter, reducing sag and letting you set posts further apart. Double-strand wire is heavier but offers higher physical visibility along boundaries.
Thicker core wires (such as 3.0mm) increase the force required to cut or bend the wire, boosting security. They also carry a thicker galvanized zinc layer, which extends the service life in wet, acidic, or coastal environments compared to thinner gauges.
For coastal applications, we recommend Class 3 hot-dip galvanization (minimum 240g/m² coating weight) or our Zn-5%Al-MM (Galfan) alloy. The addition of aluminum to the coating provides improved protection against salt spray corrosion, helping prevent premature red rust.
